Sashimi, Gyoza and Sticks (by Biggs)

Today everything caught up with me.....three weeks of farewells from Brisbane, drinking too much, eating too much, packing, moving, new job, being incredibly unwell, being in an unfamiliar town, an unfamiliar house, an unfamiliar office, not really knowing where my clean undies are packed in my mammoth bags, not really knowing where my friends are other than the fact they are 1700 kms away....it all got a bit much, I woke up SAD and was on the verge of tears all day.

The good news is I do in fact have a handful of friends in Melbourne and one very dear friend who works in the city too and is always on hand when beer and a hug is required. One beer and one hug later and we decided to go out to dinner to her favourite Japanese haunt. We order everything, ate everything, then stopped by a dive bar on the way home for one more beer and one more hug.

Boy, I feel a whole lot better! It might have been the beer and hug or it may have been the awesome food - edamame, gyoza, chicken on sticks, takoyaki and sashimi. A very standard order for me but a very delicious order to say the least.

Leftovers (by Biggs)

The household were out and about and all over the shop today so it was decided leftovers were the easiest option. I'm a big fan of leftovers, dinner always tastes better the next day. And this spaghetti bog tasted pretty great the first time around.

Soup Dumplings (by Biggs)

I found myself wandering around Richmond at about dinner time this evening, so popped into a groovy looking dumpling place. I ordered eight pork soup dumplings and took them to a nearby park to eat.

They were incredible - the broth that poured out of them was delicious, the wrappers were perfection and pork is always excellent. I must admit some satisfaction in this meal came from sitting on my arse eating whilst watching a park full of boot-campers not sitting on their arses eating. It's sort of like drinking beers on your deck after a night out, the sun is rising, as early morning joggers are pounding the pavement past your house. Very satisfactory to say the least.

Given I haven't quite aligned myself with Melbourne suburbs, tram routes, streets or directions in general as yet I'm pretty sure I'll never find this dumpling place again but feel this town may have many more excellent dumpling treats on offer.
